Globaloria: April 6, 2011

In my game i plan on importing music into each playable scene... As far as buttons go: Up, down, left, right butttons for the character, coding for a digital keyboard (with buttons to play- along) and also coding for collecting items... So far i have started importing music, coding the characters movement and i have obtained the code for the digital keyboard. I plan on putting all of these ideas into my game.

Sound + Game

My plan for sound in my game... What iI would like to do is have Herbie's music continuosly playing during game play: Mere entertainment purposes. Also whenever there is a picture or game play involving vehicles there will be a sound for traffic. The music and traffic sounds should give the gamer a broad understanding of how the city is (car sounds) and how Herbie’s music influenced the people in the city (and abroad).

Adding Scenes Blog

Creating scenes help tell a story, and also help while creating a game (especially). Gamers use scenes to make transitions from one level to another. In order to successively make these “transitions” the gamer must create a broad story of what they are trying to accomplish in their game (paper prototype) and then apply it to the scenes.
I am using visual storytelling as a means to create my game and to create transitional scenes within my game. The visual storytelling in my game includes such things as:
3.      The actual Game Play (music)
The gamer learns what is going on in the game through the visual storytelling. Examples of games that I have played that have excessive use of visual storytelling are games that depict war or battle scenes. The gamer knows what is going on because of the use of violence. The violence in the game is the visual storytelling. “A picture is worth a thousand words.”

Adding Scenes Blog

Compared to my paper prototype, my game so far tells the story that i originally had in mind. The demo that i have tells the story exactly the way that i want it to. The viewer of my game can comprehend the story of my game pretty easily. The setting is in a Boston Music Store. The second setting takes place in San Francisco (streets and the studio where Herbie recorded the Headhunters album).

The video game Call of Duty has a pretty clear point being set. The story gets told through the point of view of a soldier in WWII who's job is to protect your platoon and destroy the enemy.

Globaloria Research About Topic

Quick Synopsis of the Album:

Head Hunters is the 12th  studio album by American jazz musician Herbie Hancock. It was released on October 13, 1973 by Columbia Records. The sessions for the album took place during September 1973 at Wally Heider Studios and Different Fur Trading Co. in San Francisco, California. Head Hunters (album) is a key release in Hancock's career and a defining moment in the genre of jazz fusion.

Quick Fact:

In 2007, the Library of Congress added it to the National Recording Registry, which collects "culturally, historically or aesthetically important" sound recordings from the 20th century.

Quote Concerning Head Hunters (album):

"I began to feel that I had been spending so much time exploring the upper atmosphere of music and the more ethereal kind of far-out spacey stuff. Now there was this need to take some more of the earth and to feel a little more tethered; a connection to the earth....I was beginning to feel that we (the sextet) were playing this heavy kind of music, and I was tired of everything being heavy. I wanted to play something lighter." (Hancock's sleeve notes: 1997 CD reissue)

The Cover Image on the Album:

The image on the album cover is based on an African mask that is associated with the Baoulé tribe from Côte d'Ivoire. They have various types of masks known as Goli that have to be considered a family. Their presence is called upon in times of danger, during epidemics or at funeral ceremonies. The image also resembles the tape head demagnetizer used on reel-to-reel audio tape recording equipment at the time of this recording.

Tracks on Head Hunters (album):

Side A
  1. "Chameleon" (Hancock/Jackson/Mason/Maupin) – 15:41
  2. "Watermelon Man" (Hancock) – 6:29
Side B
  1. "Sly" (Hancock) – 10:15
  2. "Vein Melter" (Hancock) – 9:09

Globaloria Class November 19, 2010 (Day before break)

So far i have completed the "Planning your game" and the team page stuff.

I hope to get the paper prototype completed after break and i would like to start the game itself not too long after i complete the paper prototype.

This game is going to be very hard to complete. The ideas that i have will work on the paper prototype but it is going to be a major challenge to actually create the game itself.
